About Dr. Rho
Dr. Rho is a graduate of MIT and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. After internship at Columbia, he completed his residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He then completed two fellowships in vitreoretinal diseases at Loma Linda University School of Medicine near Los Angeles, and Harvard Medical School in Boston. At Loma Linda, he won the Award for Outstanding Teaching and Dedication. At Harvard, he presented and published several research studies of diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases.
Dr. Rho is an Educational Counselor for MIT, as an interviewer for MIT undergraduate admissions. He is also a Reunion Class Officer and Member-at-Large for the MIT Class of 1985. He served as Chairman of the Education Committee for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Rho currently serves as a Voluntary Editor for ARVO’s research journal, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science.
In 2015, Dr. Rho received President Obama’s Volunteer Service Award for his many years of service as a volunteer physician for EyeCare America, a philanthropy organization of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Rho has received multiple patient awards during his career, including multiple Patient’s Choice Award and Top Doctor Awards. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Rho has published numerous articles in major peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals, and he regularly presents his research at regional and national ophthalmology conferences.
In his free time, Dr. Rho enjoys playing his electric guitars, and he is now trying to learn bass guitar. Dr. Rho is an avid men’s league ice hockey player, and he has played ice hockey since childhood. He also enjoyed coaching his three children’s ice hockey and soccer travel and rec teams for several years.
